APLAC Week of October 29, 2012

This week we will be studying the multiple choice part of the AP exam. Students will look at practice exams, strategies for taking the MC test, and take an actual portion of the test for a grade.

Students will also study vocabulary rhetorical terms in preparation for the AP Exam.

This week the students have projets due on Friday. They have had 2 work days in class. Many of the students did not use the class-time very wisely.

This week we are finalizing the culminating activity--pp. 69-78.  We will be working toward creating a compare/contrast essay analyzing the style of the three pieces given in the culminating activity.

We are also analyzing the speeches and commercials for the UCL elections.

This week we are preparing to begin reading Of Mice and Men. We will first prepare by looking at specific literary elements employed by Steinbeck, as well as looking at our prior knowledge of the time period and thematic concepts.

APLAC Week of October 1, 2012

This week we are finishing Ch. 2: Close Reading. We will be analyzing John F. Kennedy's 1961 Inaugural Address. The students also have new vocabulary to study. These rhetorical devices will help students to analyze speeches, written texts, and visuals.

This week the students are completing a culminating activity for The Secret Life of Bees. The students are creating a newspaper, The Tiburon Times. The project is due on Friday.
