English 11 Week of March 19, 2012

We are currently studying Shakespeare's Macbeth. The theme is power & corruption.

  • This week, we will continue reading Act IV. I am giving the students extensive notes as we read (kind of like Cliff's Notes, but I call them Shippie Notes.) ;-)
  • Act IV
    • Read
    • Shippie Notes
    • Discuss
      • characters and how they are changing
      • themes of power, corruption, jealousy, greed
      • symbolism of the witches & apparitions in Scene 1.
    • What can we learn from Macbeth? To what extent is our political society much like Scotland's society during Macbeth's time?
    • Complete response sheet and study guide for Act IV
    • Quiz over Act IV on Thursday
    • Begin Act V after the quiz (*We may hold Act V util after spring break.)
